One Finger Riot - Fly By Life - 2012

Release date: September 24, 2012.

Documented on Post Planetary in 2025.

Written and performed by Faris McReynolds. Drums by Miles Senzaki.

Photography by Robbie Bruzus. Cover design by Faris McReynolds.

These songs were written while I was figuring out how to finish Come Drag Me Down.

I wanted it to be impossible to identify the gear I was using. There are a lot of really complicated synth automations. The level of sincerity in the vocals was edgelord. I made this with two mics I borrowed from Ilya Mxx.

The drums were played and recorded by Miles Senzaki at his studio, Grandma's Dojo. Vocals recorded by Ted Scarlett.

Fly By Life - Lyrics:

Miles

Someone's head holding up a cloud
Strung out on a different kind of love
Good love, good love, good luck
All the frozen hearts stand down
Don’t come any closer now
With a little mind I found another way

Go on for miles
Go on for miles
Go on for miles
Go on for miles

Go on for miles
Go on for miles
Go on for miles
Go on for miles

Go on for miles
Go on for miles
Go on for miles
Go on for miles

Someone said, someone said
“Don’t believe you’re always wrong”

In Your Way

Soul, I’m sorry
Did everything good
Just to be here with my mind in this world

Soul, I’m sorry
Oh where did it go?
Did you see it, was it only a ghost?

Slower, safer reaction
Slower, safer, alive
In your eyes it’s clear I want to be there

So lost
In your way

Don’t ask questions
Don’t ask nothing
You’ll never have to know

So lost
In your way

Fly by Life

So much much slips away
Seize me inside, for the destiny
Skies will part today
My bet’s on you and I flying out
We fly by life

Float down
All the way way back down to earth
Float down
All the way way back down to earth

Sometimes I can’t afford it
Feeding all these sharks
Just to be a lonely person in the dark

Call me over
Pull me into you
Call me over
Pull me into you

Float down
All the way back down to earth
Float down
All the way back down to earth

Then and Now

Then and now
It comes right back around
Then and now, and again
Stupid, idle thoughts won’t make you live
Tear it down and build again

Then and now
It comes right back around
Thinning out from within
You can hide, and they will win
Let it out and live again

Heartbreaking Tone

Wait for the sound we yearn we for
Drown us all in heartbreaking tone
Hey, before you go – wayward, and unwinding
Drown us all in heartbreaking tone

Everywhere you go
Everywhere you’ll find it
Drown us all in heartbreaking tone

Love is chemical, I just can’t explain... don’t understand it
One more chemical might just dull the pain of never knowing where to start?

Live fast for nothing
Live fast for nothing
But heartbreaking tone

What I Do

Don’t do, don’t do what I do
Don’t do, don’t do anything like me
Don’t do, don’t do what I do
Don’t do, don’t do anything like me

Time isn’t calling you back down to disappointment
Time isn’t calling at all

Don’t do, don’t do what I do
Don’t do, don’t do anything like me
Don’t do, don’t do what I do
Don’t do, don’t do anything like me

Keep You High

Always on the go
Never saying where we are
Stumble down the road in a failing beat up car
Blow up everything we own
‘Cause we’re safe in who we are
In the moment that they know, we will change

Shining with a glow
‘Cause it’s strange and ‘cause it’s new
Tell me where to go
And then tell me what to do
Every moment that we know is a moment that is new
Every moment that we know now is new

Tension wants to keep you high
Keep you high
Keep you high

Tension wants to keep you high
Keep you high
Keep you high

Dripping Black

Seems it got rusted in quarantine
One perfect mistake
To change all our lives

Dripping black
Oh, dripping black inside

Feeling don’t matter like it used to be
One perfect escape – away for all time

Dripping black
Oh, dripping black inside

Do the same thing, for now
Sunny, starry, air to breathe
Think the same thing, for now
Soak the facts in gasoline
Drown me in the music ‘til it stops

Stop

Perfect Dream

We have walked thought the landmines
We have tasted the fight
We have eyes on the sunrise
Follow that light

One close perfect dream
One close perfect dream
One close perfect dream
One close perfect dream

One close perfect dream
One close perfect dream
One close perfect dream
One close perfect dream

The End

Welcome to the end
Welcome to the end
Welcome to the end
Welcome to the end

Welcome to the end
Welcome to the end
Welcome to the end
We’ll go to the end
